The African Action Congress (AAC) has kicked against bill which seeks to create the New Oyo State with Oyo town as the Capital City from Oyo State.

Recall that the bill had scaled through second Reading on the floor of the House of Representatives, on Tuesday the party stated that such bill is not needed at this time.

In a statement signed by the Oyo state chairman of the party, Kayode Babayomi on Thursday, the party stressed that the lawmakers should prioritize bills that affect the material condition of the citizens and as welll propose bills that bring development to the nation as a whole.

“The attention of the African Action Congress Oyo State chapter, has been drawn to a frivolous bill that has just passed the second reading at the green chamber yesterday, the bill that was sponsored by the lawmaker representing Afijio/Oyo/Atiba federal constituency of Oyo state, Akeem Adeyemi and six others.

“This bill is an attestation to our popular position that our country does not need a bicameral legislature and legislation must be on a part-time basis, were this be the situation, our lawmakers would not have time to entertain such a bill at this time of nationwide economic woes and ruin.

“Our lawmakers should prioritize bills that affect the material condition of the citizens immediately and bring development to the nation as a whole.

“The creation of more states means more senators, more House of Representative members, more governors and executive, and unending appointments at a time when the majority of Nigerians are calling for the abolishment of one arm of the parliament to cut the excessive cost of governance, as witnessed during the last nationwide protest tagged End Bad Governance

“We want to state it clear that we don’t need more states but better representative and good governance

“Oyo State needs visionary leaders and representatives from a political party like the African Action Congress to paddle the canoe of the state to a development shore”, he added.
