Adeaga Leading Communities, Developing Lasting Revolution in Oyo

By Oyo Amebo

In Oyo State, change has begun not from towering offices or elaborate plans, but from the quiet, deliberate decisions of everyday people.

A mother draws water from a solar-powered borehole that did not exist last year, children stride confidently along a newly paved path to classrooms that once leaked with every rainfall, and neighbours debate the location of the next community health clinic, knowing their voices truly matter.

This transformation is the work of Honourable Abideen Adetokunbo Adeaga, Director-General of the Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency.

His approach turns conventional governance on its head: development is not dictated from above; it is nurtured from within. The people themselves decide the priorities, guide the projects, and share in the stewardship of the outcomes.

Since 2022, over 250 community-led initiatives have reshaped towns, villages, and peri-urban settlements, affecting more than 350,000 lives.

Yet the numbers only hint at the impact. The true change is felt in daily life: mothers no longer trek miles for water, teachers lead lessons in safe, well-lit classrooms, and young people engage directly in shaping the future of their communities. Development has become tangible, personal, and enduring.

Adeaga’s methodology is rooted in listening and empowerment. Residents contribute land, labour, and oversight, while local monitoring committees ensure transparency. This shared responsibility fosters ownership, ensuring infrastructure is preserved and sustained long after completion.

Inclusivity is central. Widows run businesses, orphans receive mentorship, and persons with disabilities play meaningful roles in decision-making. Women and youth are not merely consulted, they are empowered to lead. In this model, governance becomes participatory, trust is restored, and civic engagement flourishes.

Even when economic constraints arise, Adeaga ensures projects remain viable through local sourcing and preventive maintenance. Communities learn not only to manage their projects but to hold government accountable, transforming participation into empowerment.

Across Oyo State, the results speak for themselves: clean water flows reliably, schools inspire learning, women run thriving enterprises, and young people actively shape their communities. Each success tells the same story: when the people lead, development endures.

Through Adeaga’s people-first philosophy, Oyo has discovered a profound truth: sustainable progress does not come from imposition, but from listening, involving, and empowering those it is meant to serve.

In this quiet, methodical way, development has ceased to be a distant ideal, it now belongs to the people themselves.
