The gubernatorial candidate of Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, Hon Bimbo Adekanmbi, FCCA has opined that professionals need to have the duty of care to their profession and to themselves if they are really true professionals.
The former Commissioner for Finance and Budget made this assertion while contributing as a discussant to the 9th free public lecture organised by a group of professionals known as multidisciplinary finance professionals under the aegis of MFP Group Nigeria and MFP Global Services held virtually on the 12th of June, 2026 to mark the Democracy Day of Nigeria.
Adekanmbi started his contributions by praying for the soul of the teacher that was killed in the recent kidnap incident in Oyo State and prayed for the speedy release of the victims. He stated that we have professionals like his humble self, who decided to go into the public sector and who have served the State without any blemish following them around today.
In his words, “As professionals, we need to have the duty of care to our profession and to ourselves if we are really true professionals. We should put our hats in the ring as nobody is going to change the Country for us. The reforms are not always easy, rather we should contribute our own best to making the reforms work”
The former Deputy Chief of Staff continued, “I enjoin all participants to remain good professionals, have a good heart and have the ethics of the profession and your personal ethics too. That this is not about religion or anything but your personal code of what is right and what is wrong. In summary, we have a duty to do our own bit and do not go there thinking you will change the whole world in 4 years or 8 years. Let us go with the commitment that we cannot stand aloof”
The gubernatorial hopeful covet the support and co-operation of multidisciplinary finance professionals if he is fortunate to be elected as the Governor of Oyo State in 2027. In his words, “You need to be the barometer or mirror we use in seeing ourselves without any fear or favour. I will want your support if I am elected to govern the State by the Special grace of God. I will want you to challenge me. I used to work with the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter when I was the Commissioner of Finance in the State, I will be happy to have your support too if I have the mandate of the people to serve as their elected Governor in 2027”.
