In a significant milestone for Oyo State, the Adogba Central Mosque, which faced controversy and underwent reconstruction, is set for official commissioning today.

The journey to this momentous occasion, marked by challenges and triumphs, reflects Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to fostering unity and religious inclusivity in the state.

The saga began in 2020 when the state government, in a bid to construct a bus terminal, made the tough decision to demolish the existing mosque.

However, adversity turned into an opportunity as the mosque was rebuilt in a new location, emerging stronger and more accommodating than before.

Controversy ensued when the mosque was initially renamed after Governor Makinde by a committee of the Mosque, drawing criticism from various quarters.

In response to concerns raised, Governor Makinde, showcasing wisdom and leadership through Ace Journalist Dr. Oriyomi Hamzat, promptly ordered the reversal of the renaming, ensuring that the mosque retained its historical identity as the Adogba Central Mosque.

The governor’s decision to remove his name from the mosque was not driven by political motives, as some opposition elements insinuated. Instead he did that to ensure that the founders historic gesture and name remain intact, it reflected a commitment to religious harmony and respect for diverse beliefs.

Governor Makinde’s insistence on this change demonstrated his prioritization of the people’s sentiments over personal accolades.

Despite the fact that the Mosque was built with his personal money and not proceeds from the State Government Purse.

Today’s commissioning ceremony underscores the governor’s dedication to religious neutrality. Inviting revered personalities like the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who will chair the epoch-making event.

Also expected at the event are the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero; governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed; and his Kwara State counterpart, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. The Chief Imam of Ibadan Land, Imam Abdul-Ganiyy AbuBakr Agbotomokekere Oke-Koto, and the Aare Musulumi of Yoruba Land, Alhaji Dawud Akinola, among others, speak volumes about the governor’s commitment to fostering a sense of unity and mutual respect among the diverse religious communities in Oyo State.

The new mosque is not just a place of worship; it is a multifunctional edifice designed to serve various purposes. Equipped with an Islamic knowledge center, it stands as a beacon for imparting religious teachings to children, youths, and those seeking enlightenment in Islamic knowledge.

What sets this mosque apart is not just its religious significance but also its role as an open space for travelers and knowledge seekers. It promotes a youth-friendly environment, inviting all, regardless of their background, to experience a spiritual awakening in a tranquil setting.

As Oyo State Governor Engr Seyi Makinde prepares to commission the Adogba Central Mosque, it becomes evident that his good governance transcends religious boundaries.

By placing the state’s interests above personal ambition, Governor Makinde has gained recognition not only within the state but across Nigeria.

The mosque stands as a testament to his leadership style, which prioritizes unity, inclusivity, and the overall well-being of the people.
