As part of proactive moves to enhance security infrastructure in the fight against crime and criminality, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, has distributed solar power systems to all security formations within the local government area.

Olatunji said the move necessitated by his administration’s commitment to ensure uninterrupted power supply across all the formations, thereby enhancing the operational efficiency of security agencies.

Various security agencies, including the police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the DSS, Amotekun Corp, and other security formations received the solar system yesterday.

Olatunji made this announcement and official handing over to the various heads of security agencies including Amotekun Corp on Friday, January 31, shortly a Security Council meeting held at the LG Secretariat, Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan.

Speaking with newsmen after the distribution, Olatunji said that the deployment of solar systems was part of his strategic efforts towards improving public safety and to support the efforts of security personnel in maintaining law and order.

By providing such reliable and sustainable energy source, Olatunji explained that the local government is poised to enhance the responsiveness and effectiveness of its security apparatus.

He also assured that all the 43 Primary Healthcare Centres in Oluyole will receive their solar system for onward installation by next week in order to enhance their operational capacity.

Recall, that in September 2024, Olatunji facilitated the restoration of electricity to over 15 communities, including the Council Secretariat, after a decade-long blackout. This effort revitalized business activities and improved the quality of life for residents in the affected areas.

Speaking further, the Council boss emphasized that reliable electricity is crucial for effective community policing. He noted that the provision of solar systems would eliminate power outages that often hinder law enforcement activities, especially at night.

“Security is a top priority for my administration in line with the vision of His Excellency, the executive governor of Oyo state, Engr. Seyi Makinde. We must provide our police officers with the necessary resources to ensure they operate effectively. The distribution of solar power systems is one of the many steps we are taking to enhance security in Oluyole,” Olatunji stated.

Security heads at the meeting expressed their appreciation for the solar system, describing it as a timely intervention that will improve and enhance community policing efficiency in the area.
