The Akibio of Ilora, His Royal Majesty, Oba Oparinde, has praised Oyo State Governor, engineer Seyi Makinde, for approving the reconstruction of the 4-kilometre Idi-Igba-Akinmorin Road in Ilora, Afijio Local Government Area, describing him as a listening governor who remains attentive to the needs and aspirations of the people.
The monarch said the governor’s approval of the road project demonstrates his administration’s commitment to responsive governance and the delivery of infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of ordinary citizens.
Oba Oparinde revealed that he had personally drawn Governor Makinde’s attention to the deplorable condition of the road about two years ago, expressing delight that the governor had fulfilled the request by approving its reconstruction.
”Governor Seyi Makinde is a listening governor who pays attention to the complaints and aspirations of the people. About two years ago, I brought the deplorable condition of the Idi-Igba-Akinmorin Road to his attention, and today he has demonstrated that he keeps faith with the people by approving its reconstruction,” the monarch said.
According to the traditional ruler, the road has for years posed serious challenges to residents, motorists, farmers and traders, affecting transportation, commerce and access to neighbouring communities.
He noted that the reconstruction of the road would open up the area to increased economic activities, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and improve access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities.
”This project will transform our community. It will ease transportation, boost socio-economic activities, improve the movement of goods and services, and create better opportunities for our people. We are truly grateful to Governor Makinde for listening to our plea,” Oba Oparinde added.
The royal father further commended the Makinde administration for sustaining investment in road infrastructure across Oyo State, noting that such projects have continued to bring development closer to rural communities.
He appealed to residents of Ilora and neighbouring communities to support the successful execution of the project by cooperating with the contractors and ensuring the protection of public infrastructure throughout the construction period.
”On behalf of the good people of Ilora, I sincerely appreciate Governor Makinde for approving this important project. His decision has once again shown that he is a governor who listens to the people and acts in their best interest. We assure him of our continued support and cooperation to ensure the successful delivery of this road,” the royal father stated.
The Oyo State Executive Council recently approved the reconstruction of the 4-kilometre Idi-Igba-Akinmorin Road in Ilora at a cost of ₦2.9 billion, with the project expected to enhance connectivity, stimulate socio-economic growth and improve the livelihoods of residents in Afijio Local Government Area.
