Akintola : Calling Out The Pundits and Their Litany Errors By Mobolaji Oladepo

Of a fact, the recent readings of a political stargazer in one of our the national dailies is fraught with errors, miscalculations and outright misrepresentation of the rhyme and reasons, the fulcrum upon which APC in Oyo state stands.

The ideals of the post Awolowo era progressives seem to have foundered after the exit of some of the juggernauts of the movement like Adekunle Ajasin, Bola Ige, Lam Adesina and Olabisi Onabanjo to mention a few.

The programmers of the current algorithm in use within the group understand only one thing, money. They have thrown all the progressive ideals of egalitarianism and the accompanying ensemble of positive attributes like equity, fairness, justice, genuine service to fatherland overboard. And this explains why the hazy pictures being seen on their crystal ball is full errors.

If we recall from recent history particularly during the last APC gubernatorial primaries in Oyo State, the unsavoury usurpation that took place in the arena was astounding. A so called ” dark horse” beat all the candidates hands down.
He was the people’s choice but the powers that be had different thinking all because of filthy lucre! One phone call changed the destiny of the party and perhaps the people at the real polls which took place months later because of the rejection of the imposed candidate who lost at the primaries. Obviously the party did not work together as one house.
Underground alliances and total apathy in most quarters lost the election for APC in the state at that time. The voodoo calculations have begun again.

The kites being flown by the demonic soothsayers is hinting at the behind the scene manoeuvrings of some kingmakers and their moneybag anointed candidates ignoring the warnings of the electorates the last time out.
My understanding of the annoyance of the electorate at that time seem to be about the fact that they did not let their voices count. The poise as things stand as of today among party loyalists is that of “we shall see ” which if interpreted and captured in James Baldwin the American writer’s parlance, It may be ” fire next time”
