2023 Bursary Award: Oyo govt completes Verification Exercise For Oyo indigenes in Nigerian Law School

Oyo state government, through the State Scholarship Board, has completed the verification and Screening Exercise of 193 Oyo indigenes in the Nigerian Law School for the 2022/2023 Session.

The Chairman, Oyo State Scholarship Board,RT.Hon.Maroof Atilola, while speaking at the Board’s Conference Room, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan, said the screening exercise was to ascertain the claims submitted by the applicants across the Nigerian law school campuses.

He said that Governor Makinde, graciously approved bursary allowance in the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (#500,000) per head for batch 2023 law school students who are indigenes of Oyo state.

The Chairman noted that the screening was to verify their documents to see if truly they are bona fide indigenes of Oyo state.

Hon Atitola affirmed that the screening committee has no issue with the documents presented by the beneficiaries.

He hinted that a total of 222 Oyo indigenes schooling across the seven law school campuses in the country are to benefit from the 2023 scholarship
award, adding that the first batch of 193 were given approval, while the board awaits the approval of the remaining students.

He expressed displeasure over the communication gap between the current leadership of the law students and scholarship board in compiling the names of the beneficiaries.

Hon. Atilola admonished the incoming leadership of Oyo indigenes at the law school to be committed to the course of the group and liase with the concerned authority of the school with a view to having a comprehensive list of beneficiaries at a goal.

He explained that the screening exercise covered the seven law school campuses in the country.

Hon.Atilola hinted that
the Oyo state indigenes in law school have been enjoying this bursary award package since 2019.

He said: ” The screening is to ascertain the claims of the beneficiaries, ensure no one is missing out, and see if they are qualified for the scholarship.

” The screening committee is satisfied with all the documents examined . For now, we got approval for the first batch, 193 beneficiaries and each beneficiary will get #500,000.

In their separate remarks, two of the beneficiaries, Miss. Kawthar Salahudeen and Mr.Adedeji Afolabi, appreciated the governor of Oyo State for approving the bursary award for Oyo indigenes in Nigerian Law School across the country.

The duo expressed delight over the gesture, saying that the bursary will make great impacts in the pursuance of their career.

They also appealed to the governor for quick disbursement of the bursary, so it can be useful for their call to bar program that will come up in February,2024.

They applauded the scholarship board for making the screening exercise hitch-free and convenient for all the beneficiaries.

The screening committee consisted of Representatives from TESCOM ,Ministries of Finance,Local Government and Chieftancy Matters, and the host, Education, Science, and Technology.
