Our attention has been drawn to claims suggesting that petitions are being entertained by the Oyo State House of Assembly concerning the selection of the Alaafin.
As Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, we wish to clearly state that no such petition has been received by the House on the matter.
For the avoidance of doubt, the House only considers petitions that fall within its constitutional and statutory competencies.
Matters relating to chieftaincy are already regulated by law and established administrative and traditional processes and therefore do not fall within the remit of the legislature.
Accordingly, any grievances on chieftaincy matters should be directed to the Ministry of Local Government and Chienftaincy Matters or the courts of competent jurisdiction, as provided by law.
Thank you.
