The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Hon Kunle Yusuff (MON) has called for a positive and active collaboration between the 33 local government caretaker chairmen,the ministry of local government and chieftaincy matters and the SDGs Office on the roles they are to play in the developmental projects of the SDGs in different councils through the NEEDs ASSESSMENT EXERCISE.
Hon Yusuff stated this on Thursday at an interactive forum with the 33 caretaker chairmen at the state Secretariat. He noted that the SDGs office will facilitate a training for the caretaker chairmen and key officers of the local governments so as to have basic knowledge of the activities of the SDGs. The SDGs boss said out of the 17goals global agenda of SDGs, four centres on the cardinal programmes of Governor Seyi Makinde administration.
To this end, the caretaker chairmen were implored to play a primary role in the SDGs activities by coordinating the people in their communities during the NEEDs assessment exercise. His word: today’s meeting was centred around development, but basically, it was on the need assessment for Oyo State SDGs to get the grant for developmental projects in our state.
Since the governor has approved that Oyo SDGs must collaborate with the Local Government chairmen, that’s why my office deemed it fit to brief them on the development SDGs will provide and theory role the chairmen must play aide development in their different council areas.”
“Well, like I said, the 17 Global Agenda of SDGs has been summarized into 8. While the four cardinal programme of Governor Makinde falls within the 8 points agenda of SDGs. The governor is working within the SDGs agenda. The grant we shall be getting will be channelled to the basic healthcare, education, youths empowerment, training of teachers and basic infrastructure.”
The governor’s aide stressed that the forum will enable the chairmen to inform us what they need and how we would secure International and Federal Government interventions and all development donors.
