APM Reps, Assembly Candidates Donate Solar Lights to Community in Akinyele

The APM candidates for the Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency and Akinyele Constituency 1, Engr. Toheeb Adegoke ADLAT and Hon. Lekan Mosur Abiola, on Saturday donated solar-powered street lights to residents of Abiola Community in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The intervention, which was aimed at improving visibility and security within the community, saw the installation and donation of solar lights at strategic locations in the area.

Engr. Toheeb Adegoke ADLAT, the APM candidate for the House of Representatives seat representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, and Hon. Lekan Mosur Abiola, the party’s candidate for the Oyo State House of Assembly seat for Akinyele Constituency 1, said the gesture was part of their commitment to supporting communities and improving the quality of life of residents.

Speaking during the donation, ADLAT said the initiative was driven by the need to respond to practical challenges confronting residents, particularly the need for improved lighting around the community.

He noted that access to basic infrastructure should not be treated as a privilege, stressing that communities deserved interventions capable of making everyday life safer and more comfortable for residents.

According to him, the solar lighting project was not merely about putting up street lights, but about demonstrating that meaningful representation begins with listening to the people and responding to their needs.

ADLAT assured residents of Abiola Community that his commitment to the people would go beyond the present intervention, pledging continuous support and engagement with communities across the Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency.

He said, “This is about the people. When we engage with our communities, we listen to what they need and we look for practical ways to support them. The solar lights we are providing today may look simple, but they can make a significant difference to security, movement and economic activities within this community.

“We are not here today because of politics alone. We are here because we believe our communities deserve attention and support. This is only one step, and we will continue to do more.”

Also speaking, Hon. Lekan Mosur Abiola said the donation reflected the importance of community-driven initiatives in addressing local challenges.

The APM candidate for Akinyele Constituency 1 said the solar lights would provide illumination at night while also contributing to the safety and general wellbeing of residents.

Lekan Abiola stressed that sustainable development required consistent interaction between prospective representatives and the people they sought to serve.

He assured residents that the partnership between him and ADLAT would continue to prioritise interventions that directly impact the people.

“We believe in supporting our people in practical ways. A community that is properly lit at night is a community where people can move around with greater confidence and where certain security concerns can be reduced.

“This is not going to be a one-off relationship. We will continue to engage with the people, identify areas where we can assist and do our best to provide meaningful support,” he said.

Residents of Abiola Community expressed appreciation to the two APM candidates for the intervention, describing the provision of solar lights as timely and beneficial to the community.

The residents noted that inadequate lighting had been a concern, particularly during the night, and expressed optimism that the new solar lights would improve visibility and contribute to security within the community.

The donation further underscores the growing emphasis on community-level interventions as the political season gathers momentum in Akinyele Local Government Area.

For ADLAT and Lekan Abiola, however, the exercise was presented not simply as a political activity, but as part of a broader commitment to community engagement, grassroots development and continuous support for the people.

Both candidates reiterated their determination to maintain regular contact with residents and work towards initiatives that address the immediate and long-term needs of communities within their respective constituencies.
