Former Alliance for Democracy (AD) Whip in the House of Representatives and member of the Oyo State Advisory Council, Hon. Babatunde Oduyoye, has urged Nigerians to not only congratulate him on his birthday anniversary today, but also remember to pray for Nigeria.

Oduyoye, a two-term member of the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2007, whose date of birth coincides with Nigeria’s Independence Day, noted that though Nigeria is facing various economic challenges, Nigerians must remain strong and resolute.

“Let us, in our own little ways, contribute our quota to the development of our great nation,” he said.

In a congratulatory message posted on his social media handle, on Tuesday, Oduyoye urged Nigerians and residents of Oyo State not to “overlook the growth and progress of our dear nation, especially Oyo State,” but be the change we wish to see in the world as advocated by Mahatma Gandhi.

In his words: “Today marks the beginning of another year for me, which also coincides with the 64th Independence Day celebration of our beloved country, Nigeria.

“As you join me in giving thanks and praying for more blessings, long life, good health, and prosperity, please do not forget to pray for Nigeria, which is currently beset by various economic challenges.

“On this day last year, family and friends from various walks of life joined me to give thanks to the Almighty God and to celebrate my Diamond Affairs milestone. The celebration was a great success, made possible by all your support, and it was a reflection of my journey through the years.

“Your contributions reinvigorated the saying that true friendship knows no bounds, as you showed your unwavering commitment to years of friendship and camaraderie. You truly demonstrated what it means to be my garb of honour.

“The last 365 days have been filled with mixed emotions. While celebrations have continued in our respective homes, we have also mourned the loss of a few cherished friends, who returned to their maker at various times during the year. Those were the dark moments, but who are we to question the Almighty God?

“Although we grieved and mourned, we also celebrated their good deeds and worthy lives. Once again, I express my condolences to their families and pray that God grants the souls of the departed eternal rest. May He continue to give us the strength to bear such losses.

“Friends and associates, I thank you once again for your support during my Diamond Affairs celebration and your continued support throughout my life’s journey.

“I wish you all the very best, as I also wish myself every success in the coming year.
“Happy Birthday to Me and Happy Independence Day to Nigeria! ”
