Awotan Dupmsite: Makinde Has Fulfilled SDGs Global Goals 3, 6, 11, 13- Kunle Yusuff

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Sustainable Development Goals, Kunle Yusuff MON, has lauded the Governor as he Commissioned Awontan refuse dumpsite.

Hon Yusuff noted that the project is related to “Sustainable Waste Management Policy” noting that this initiative will reduce the amount of natural resources consumed, confirm that materials that are taken from nature are refused as many times as possible and waste created is kept to the barest minimum.

Speaking further, Yusuff said if a waste is not properly managed, it can cause huge environmental problems because some waste will eventually rot and in the process it may generate menthen has that will eventually cause Pollution.

“Today’s Commissioning has leveraged on waste management prevention because on our production and consumption lead to large quantities of waste.”

“An important element in work on eco-cycles is therefore Sustainable Waste Management. The waste can be both resource and an environmental Problem.”

“In cases where waste management does not work, this can lead to problems related to sanitation and health, as well as soil and water pollution.”

“The United Nations Basel Convention on Control of Transboundary movement of Hazardous waste and their Disposal is a Global Convention that was adopted in 1989 and came into force 1993. The fundamental purpose of the convention is to protect Human Health and Environment against harm that can be caused by movement and disposal of hazardous waste.”

“It’s also important to mention that Commissioning of Awontan dumpsite has also enhanced the chances of Oyo State to claim SDGs Addisa Abba Agreement on Environmental Impact Management Grants.”

“It’s becoming obvious on daily basis that Governor Seyi Makinde is SDGs Ambassador in Nigeria by aligning with the principles and concepts of SDGs Global perceptive.”

“Conclusively, the SDGs office wishes to appreciate the Ministry of Environment and Oyo State Waste Management Authority for effectiveness and efficiency.”
