The Ayete and Tapa communities in Ibarapa North Local Governemnt have expressed strong opposition to the appointment of the Asigangan of Igangan as the permanent Chairman of the local government.

The decision, they argued, undermined the established rotational chairmanship system that has long been the backbone of local governance in the state.

Representatives from both communities visited the office of the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, to voice their grievances.

They were assured that their concerns about maintaining the rotational system would be taken seriously. However, the recent amendments to the Oyo State Traditional Council Bill seem to overlook this fundamental issue.

The rotational system is seen as vital for ensuring balanced representation and inclusivity among the diverse communities in Ibarapa North.

The communities feared that imposing a permanent chairman could increase tensions and disrupt the harmony that has been cultivated over the years.

In their appeal, the Ayete Council of Elders, along with other local unions and councils, urged Governor Seyi Makinde to reconsider the decision.

They emphasised that reverting to the rotational chairmanship aligns with the will and dignity of the people in the area.

The communities, are optimistic of a resolution that honours their traditions and promotes unity within Ibarapa North.
