The Ladilu of Oyo Kingdom and Former Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State
Ibadanland has lost a father, a symbol of grace, and a bastion of cultural dignity.

The passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, on July 7, 2025, marks the end of an era defined by wisdom, humility, and quiet strength. At the age of 90, and barely two days after celebrating both his birthday and one year on the revered throne, Oba Olakulehin has joined the ranks of our illustrious ancestors.
Our relationship was more than cordial—it was a bond rooted in mutual respect, trust, and shared values.

I had the privilege of enjoying not just a warm personal rapport with Kabiyesi, but also a longstanding relationship with his children and family.

His reign, though brief, was impactful. He brought dignity to the ancient and regal stool of the Olubadan, a throne that remains one of the most respected traditional institutions in Africa.

Oba Olakulehin’s life journey—from his humble beginnings in Okugbaja village to his decorated military service and successful ventures in business—was a narrative of resilience, leadership, and commitment to excellence. As a retired Major in the Nigerian Army and a successful entrepreneur, he embodied discipline and vision, qualities he carried into his role as the custodian of Ibadan’s heritage.

Oyo state mourns, but we also celebrate a life well-lived. I extend heartfelt condolences to the Olakulehin family, the Olubadan-in-Council, and all sons and daughters of Ibadanland. May the soul of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin rest in eternal peace.
