…Baales Hail Gov Seyi Makinde’s Position on Due Process
In a bid to demand the restoration of the right of acceptable aspirant to the throne of Alaafin of Oyo, some Baales and residents of Oyo town on Tuesday stormed the premises of the Federal High Court sitting in Oyo which is hearing the suit filed by the Oyo kingmakers to restrain Governor Seyi from thwarting the selection process of new Alaafin.
The kingmakers in Oyo town, otherwise known as the Oyomesi in Council, had dragged Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to court over the vacant stool of the Alaafin of Oyo.
The suit marked HOY/38/2023 before the Oyo State High Court in Oyo has as claimants five kingmakers, seeking a court injunction to restrain the governor and his agents “from aborting the process for the selection/appointment of the candidate for filling the vacant stool of Alaafin of Oyo duly conducted by the kingmakers of Alaafin of Oyo Chieftaincy.”
The kingmakers who filed the suit are the Bashorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Layinka; Lagunna of Oyo, High Chief Wakeel Oyedepo; Akinniku of Oyo, High Chief Amusa Yusuf.
Some residents who protested at the court premises were seen with different placards with various inscriptions which read:
“We Stand with Governor Seyi Makinde, he is a man of honour, Oyo people want due process and Ifa consultation.
“Our ancestors demand for a good Alaafin.
“Alaafin Stool is not for sale.”
