BREAKING: Three Front-Runners Reportedly Emerge from Governorship Screening in Oyo


Early indications from the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship screening process in Oyo State suggested that three leading contenders have emerged as front-runners. (names withheld).


According to impeccable sources who spoke with Goalpoachernews on the condition of anonymity, two of the shortlisted aspirants are currently serving in key government positions, while the third is regarded as an outsider.


Two of the shortlisted aspirants hail from Ibadan while a seasoned politician from another zone outside Ibadan.


In a reflection of political sensitivity and balance, it was also gathered that two of the aspirants are Christians, while one is a Muslim, an indication of the party’s consideration for inclusivity.


The screening process is expected to continue into the coming week, with additional aspirants scheduled to appear before the committee as the PDP intensifies preparations for the 2027 election.




Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde, initiated a strategic move to shape the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) path towards the 2027 governorship election by constituting a high-level screening committee for aspirants.


The committee is chaired by respected legal figure and Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde. Its mandate is to evaluate individuals seeking the party’s governorship ticket.
The panel comprises members drawn from both the Elders Council and the Governor’s Advisory Council, reflecting a deliberate effort to ensure credibility, inclusiveness, and alignment with the party’s long-term strategy.
Th exercise is designed to rigorously examine the aspirants’ political pedigree, administrative competence, and electoral viability, while also fostering early consensus to avoid internal divisions.
