Updated:Oyo Government Expended N2.7bn on COVID-19

In line with the principle of transparency, probity and accountability with which the administration of Engr Seyi Makinde is known for, the state government on Tuesday revealed it has spent close to N3 billion naira since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic in the state on March 20th when it recorded it first case.

This was revealed by the Oyo state Commissioner for Finance, Hon Akinola Ojo at a briefing shortly after the state Executive Council meeting. He revealed that the state received a sum of N1.177 billion as donations.

According to the Commissioner, part of money was used in Upgrading  Olodo and rehabilitation of the three other infectious disease Centres across the state.

According to the commissioner, he said,370 Million Naira was spent to upgrade Olodo infectious disease Centre,321 million Naira for Ambulances,614 Million Naira for Preventive kits while other Isolation centres at Saki, Ogbomoso and Igboora would soon be completed.

The commissioner also told journalists that,453 million Naira was spent on security, while 118 million Naira was given as support to University College Hospital (UCH), to fight the pandemic.

Akinola however said the state government has not received any money from the Federal Government including the National Centre for Disease Control to tackle the Novel Covid-19, noting that the state was still expecting the 100 Million Naira promised by the NCDC.

He stressed that out of over 2.7billion Naira spent so far, 900 million Naira was used for palliatives include seedlings and farm input given to Farmers .
