The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin Ige I, has officially elevated Chief Olumuyiwa Makinde to the title of Aare Onibon Olubadan of Ibadanland, in a significant promotion that signifies both recognition and responsibility.
The ceremony took place at the New Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Yemetu, Ibadan, and drew a distinguished audience of traditional rulers, family members, and community leaders.
Chief Makinde, who previously held the title of Bada Olubadan, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for this honour.
“It means a lot because once you become a lineage chief in Ibadanland, your prayer is to continue advancing and ultimately reach the highest honour, which is the Olubadan of Ibadanland.Moving today from Bada Olubadan to Aare Onibon Olubadan is a source of great joy, and I feel elated.
Chief Makinde emphasized that this new title enhances his commitment to serving the people of Ibadanland and Oyo State.
“Every elevation in the Olubadan lineage is a call to further service. It is inherent in this chieftaincy title that you should rededicate yourself to serving the people of Ibadanland and Oyo State more than before.”
A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan North East State Constituency II, Hon. Olusola Owolabi, praised Chief Makinde’s elevation as a testament to the progressive lineage of the Olubadan throne.
He highlighted the importance of strong representation for the diverse families and communities within Ibadan, stating, “Having someone like Chief Makinde to confidently represent his lineage is a boost to his family and a success for the Makindes as a whole.”
The installation ceremony was a vibrant gathering, attended by members of the Olubadan-in-Council, high chiefs, family members, and friends, all celebrating this important occasion in the cultural heritage of Ibadanland.
