Circular Road: Makinde Vindicated as Affected Land Owner Accuses Minister Adelabu of Politicising Protest

An affected landowner on the Ibadan Circular Road project, Mr Azeez Abass Olaide, has criticised the Minister of Power, Chief Bayo Adelabu, accusing him of attempting to politicise the issues surrounding the ongoing demolition exercise.

Speaking on a radio programme aired on Fresh FM, Ibadan, Olaide said the claims by the minister that he had supported affected property owners with N25 million as compensation were false and misleading.

He stated that many of those whose properties were affected by the demolition had not received any compensation, contrary to the minister’s assertion.

Olaide further explained that the attempt by certain individuals to turn the situation into a political campaign against the Oyo State Government was unfair and untrue, stressing that Governor Seyi Makinde had made efforts to engage genuine stakeholders affected by the project.

He noted that those spreading misinformation were not representing the interest of genuine property owners but were being sponsored to discredit the state government’s developmental efforts.

Meanwhile, observers said Olaide’s statement appears to vindicate Governor Makinde’s earlier claim that protests against the 500-metre corridor of the Ibadan Circular Road project were politically motivated.
