The Civil Society Organizations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), on Friday coordinated a joint operational briefing between international and local election observers ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The briefing, held on Friday, August 14, 2026, brought together international observers led by the Association of World Peace Advocates and local observers under the coordination of CSCHEI, which is serving as the team lead for the deployment, coordination and supervision of INEC accredited civil society organisations for the election.
CSCHEI said it is coordinating and supervising 40 INEC accredited civil society organisations deployed for election observation across Osun State.
At the briefing, local observers were directed to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act in the discharge of their duties. They were also cautioned against reporting or disseminating unverified information, with emphasis placed on accuracy, professionalism and responsible observation.
The observers were further directed to work closely with security agencies throughout the election to ensure their safety and security while carrying out their assignments.
Speaking at the meeting, the Director General of CSCHEI, Kunle Yusuff, FincSD, MON, reminded the observers that they were on a national assignment and urged them to place the interest of Nigeria above personal or organisational considerations in the interest of democratic development.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of the Association of World Peace Advocates and an INEC international observer, stressed that security arrangements for the election must be anchored on fairness, justice and equity.
The briefing was attended by representatives of 32 INEC accredited election observer organisations, including CSCHEI, Advocacy for Quality Leadership and Health Awareness Foundation, Grassroot Development and Peace Initiative, Center for Grassroot Development and Crime Prevention, Initiative for Awareness of Civic Education of Citizens, Centre for Social Value and Early Childhood Development, New Dimension Network for Peace Initiative and Conscience Women of Africa Initiative.
Others included Committee of Youth on Mobilization and Sensitization, Women’s Right and Peace Protection Initiative for Africa, Women Fest for Better Life Initiative, Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution in Communities Initiative, Amazon Women Substance Foundation, Sonia Initiative for Sustainable Development, The People’s Care and Advocacy Initiative, Immaculate Initiative for Peace, Northern Patriotic Front, Northern Socio-Cultural Initiative and Your Vote is Your Voice Africa Initiative.
Also in attendance were Patriotic Women Foundation, Women and Youth Development, Africa Women for Unity Social and Cultural Organization, United Nigeria Peace Foundation, Young Generation Vocational Empowerment Initiative, Initiative for Peace, Humanity and Social Advancement for Women, Citizens Right for Peace and Non-Violence Initiative, Right Way for Women and Youth in Africa, Network of Men with Disability, Armstrong Leadership Capacity Development Initiative, Support for Civil Society Organizations Initiative, Center for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness and Concern Initiative for Community and Social Development.
The observers are expected to monitor Saturday’s election in line with INEC guidelines and applicable electoral laws, while contributing to a peaceful, credible and transparent electoral process.
