David Oyedepo, son of the President of the Multidisciplinary Finance Professionals Group (MFP), Dr Prince Oyebade Oyedepo, FCA, JP was among the medical doctors inducted yesterday, Wednesday, 21st October 2026 at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED).
The induction lecture was delivered by Dr Taiwo Olumide Fasoranti, the Secretary, Ondo State Government who counselled them on their responsibilities. Highlight of the lecture were; Today, you become more than a graduate, the white coat is a symbol of trust, never see only the disease, competence is not an option, your medical degree is a license to keep learning, character will determine the doctor you will become, confidentiality is a sacred, respect every member of the healthcare team, lead with humility, do not lose your humanity, medicine in Nigeria requires resilience and innovation, use technology but remain the doctor, success is more than money, take care of yourself, when you make mistake, learn, remember the people who help you get there, what kind of Doctor would you become, your profession is a call to service, and remember the public trust.

Dr Taiwo Olumide Fasoranti also made these remarks in his lecture, “Dear newly inducted Doctors, you have earned a degree, more importantly, today you begin earning something that cannot be conferred by a University – the trust of your patients. Your certificate will tell that you completed medical or dental school, but your career progression will tell them what kind of Doctor you became. So, as you leave this ceremony and begin the next chapter of your lives, I challenge you to remember five things:

Be competent: Know your medicine. Keep learning and know your limitations.
Be compassionate: See the human being behind the diagnosis
Be courageous: Do what is right even when it is difficult.
Be humble: Ask for help. Listen and learn from everyone.
Be trustworthy: Protect your patient’s confidence. Protect your integrity and honour of your profession”.

Above all, be the Doctor you would want to meet when your life is at risk. When you are the patient or the patient is your child, family member or someone you love. What kind of Doctor would you want standing beside you? Would you want a Doctor who is honest and technically competent? Would you want a Doctor who knows when to ask for help? Would you want a Doctor who respects your dignity? Would you want a Doctor who sees you as a human being rather than a disease? Then, become that Doctor. That is the standard. That is the responsibility. That is the privilege. That is greatness.

My dear Doctors!Go forth and serve humanity.
Heal where you can.
Comfort where you cannot heal.Listen when others need to be heard.
Speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Stand for truth when compromise is easier.
Keep learning when you think you know enough.
Remain humble when success comes.
And whenever you are uncertain about the kind of Doctor you should be, ask yourself one simple question: ”If I were to be the patient, what kind of doctor would I want?”
Then become that Doctor.
Dr Taiwo Olumide Fasoranti concluded by offering these prayers, “May your knowledge be deep, your judgement sound, your hands skillful, your hearts compassionate, your character strong and your service impactful. May you become Doctors who do not merely treat diseases, but restore hope. Doctors who do not merely build careers, but build people. Doctors who do not merely occupy positions, but make positive change; whereby years from now, when you look back upon this day, may you be able to say: I did not merely become a Doctor. I became a Doctor who made a difference.I leave you with the promise of Hippocrates, the Oath you will swear to follow and uphold.Once again, Congratulations, Doctors!Go forth and serve humanity with your knowledge and strength. Protect the dignity of our profession and become the Doctor the world needs”.
