As Nigeria commemorates Democracy Day, the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government, Hon. Olusola Adeleke Ayodele has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the nation’s democratic journey while calling for sober reflection on the sacrifices, struggles and resilience that have sustained democratic governance over the years.
In his message made available through his media office, Hon. Adeleke described the occasion as more than a public holiday, noting that it serves as a powerful reminder of the courage of those who fought for justice, freedom and the right of the people to determine their collective destiny through democratic processes.
The Chairman stated that Democracy Day offers an opportunity to honour the memories of heroes and patriots whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the democratic system Nigerians enjoy today. He noted that their struggles continue to inspire leaders and citizens alike to uphold the principles of accountability, justice, equity and service to humanity.
According to Hon. Adeleke, democracy remains strongest when leaders remain connected to the people and governance continues to reflect the hopes and aspirations of the masses.
“Today is a day of reflection and gratitude. We remember the sacrifices of those who stood firmly for democracy and paid the price for the freedom we enjoy today. Their courage reminds us that democracy is not merely about elections but about service, responsibility and a commitment to improving the lives of the people,” he stated.
The Chairman acknowledged that while challenges remain, Nigeria’s democratic journey has continued to demonstrate the resilience, determination and strength of its people. He urged citizens not to lose faith in the nation but to remain hopeful and committed to building a more prosperous and united society.
Hon. Adeleke further emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and active citizen participation in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting sustainable development at all levels of government.
He also expressed appreciation to the good people of Ibarapa Central for their support, trust and commitment to democratic values, assuring them of his administration’s continued dedication to people-centered governance and grassroots development.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us renew our commitment to the ideals that bind us together as one people. Let us choose unity over division, hope over despair, and progress over stagnation. Together, we can build a future that honours the sacrifices of yesterday and fulfills the dreams of generations yet unborn,” the Chairman added.
Hon. Adeleke concluded by praying for peace, stability and continued progress in Ibarapa Central, Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole, expressing optimism that the nation’s best days still lie ahead.
