The Executive Chairman of Ibadan East Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Oluwole Alawode, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, urging citizens to remain steadfast in their support for democratic ideals and nation-building efforts.
In a statement issued to commemorate the historic occasion, Hon. Alawode described Democracy Day as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s political evolution, noting that it offers an opportunity for reflection on the sacrifices of heroes who fought for the enthronement and sustenance of democratic governance in the country.
According to the Chairman, democracy remains the most viable platform for ensuring popular participation, accountability, transparency, and sustainable development at all levels of government.
He commended the resilience and unwavering spirit of Nigerians in preserving democratic values despite numerous challenges, emphasizing the need for greater unity, peaceful coexistence, and collective responsibility in advancing the nation’s progress.
The council boss also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering quality grassroots governance and improving the welfare of the people of Ibadan East Local Government through people-oriented policies and developmental initiatives.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us renew our commitment to the ideals of justice, equity, peace, and national development. Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous, and united Nigeria,” he stated.
The Chairman further called on citizens to continue supporting the efforts of Engr. Seyi Makinde’s government which aimed at promoting good governance, economic growth, and social harmony across the state.
Hon. Alawode wished all Nigerians a peaceful and memorable Democracy Day celebration and prayed for continued progress, stability, and prosperity for Ibadan South East Local Government, Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
