Dr. Akande Kazeem Babatunde, Chairman of the Governing Council at the African Institute for Justice of the Peace (AFIJP) and Pioneer Peace Chair for Rotary District 9126, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade.

In a statement issued on Monday, Dr. Akande described the ascension of Oba Owoade as a significant milestone for the Oyo Kingdom. He lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for presenting the staff of office to the new monarch, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the rich history of Oyo’s traditional leadership.

Dr. Akande highlighted Oba Owoade’s impressive credentials, which include his professional achievements in Canada as a Project Coordinator at Manitoba Hydro and his philanthropic endeavors within the Yoruba diaspora. He expressed confidence that the monarch’s global experience, educational background, and visionary leadership would contribute immensely to the development of Oyo and the preservation of Yoruba culture.

“Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade’s ascension represents a blend of tradition and progress, bringing a wealth of global perspective to the revered throne of the Alaafin of Oyo,” Dr. Akande stated. “I am optimistic that his reign will usher in unprecedented growth, unity, and cultural renaissance for Oyo and its people.”

Dr. Akande also acknowledged Oba Owoade’s passion for cultural heritage and community development, commending his dedication to fostering the Yoruba culture abroad. He called on all sons and daughters of Oyo to rally behind the new monarch in support of his vision for the kingdom.

The new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away on April 22, 2022, leaving the throne vacant for nearly three years. Oba Owoade’s enthronement signifies the continuation of Oyo’s legacy of excellence and resilience in traditional governance.

Dr. Akande concluded his message with a prayer for the Alaafin’s successful and impactful reign, wishing him divine wisdom and strength in his new role as the custodian of Oyo’s rich heritage.
