Ibadan is set to witness a historic milestone on 7 April, 2026, as Dr. Debo Akande, Director-General of OYSADA and Executive Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, leads the foundation and groundbreaking ceremony of the Ibadan Historical Library & Hall of Fame, an initiative he personally conceived to celebrate and preserve the city’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

The event will be hosted at Bode Amoo Hall, Ibadan House, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan, and promises to bring together a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, traditional rulers, and community leaders.

Okanlomo Odua, Chief Engr. Dr. Jubril Dotun Sanusi Mogaji Agbaoye Kola Kareem will serve as Chief launcher while Royal Father of the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Kola Daisi.

Chief (Mrs) Oniképo Akande will be honoured as Mother of the Day, while Mogaji Moshood Gbola will act as Chief Host. Also in attendance will be Chief (Barr) Sulaiman Ajeniy Ajewole, President General of the IBCFPC.

The programme includes a documentary presentation and formal remarks, emphasizing the library and hall of fame’s pivotal role in safeguarding Ibadan’s history and fostering educational and cultural awareness for future generations.

The Historical Tour Committee of Ibadan, chaired by Comrade Mrs. Adenike Adediran with Prince Yussuf Adisa as Co-Chairman, is coordinating the event.

The project is envisioned as a central hub for historical research, cultural exhibitions, and community engagement, solidifying Ibadan’s status as a center of heritage and learning.

The initiative reflects Dr. Debo Akande’s enduring commitment to preserving Ibadanland’s legacy and inspiring the next generation through cultural and historical education.
