There was an atmosphere of excitement and celebration on Wednesday as the Executive Chairman of Òyó East Local Government, Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola, emerged as the consensus Chairmanship Candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the forthcoming local government election.
The party’s Vice Chairmanship ticket also went to Hon. Mustapha Abdulwasiu Ademola, while consensus councillorship candidates emerged across the ten wards of the local government during the peaceful and successful party primary held at the Òyó East Local Government Secretariat.
The convention, which was supervised by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) representative, Alhaji Lawal, commenced at exactly 11:25 a.m. and concluded at about 12:30 p.m.
The event was attended by party leaders, stakeholders, security personnel, and members of the Allied Peoples Movement.
Among the dignitaries present were Hon. Azeez Tirimisiyu, Hon. Adewale Fariogun, Hon. Akin Alawode, Hon. Sakiru Ojo, Alhaji Ismaila Yusuf, and the Òyó East APM Chairman, Alhaji Rasheed Agba.
The proceedings began with the introduction of party stakeholders, OYSIEC officials, DSS personnel, party executives, and delegates by Hon. Sakiru Ojo before the formal nomination and affirmation of candidates.
At the end of the exercise, the following candidates emerged:
- Chairmanship Candidate: Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola
- Vice Chairmanship Candidate: Hon. Mustapha Abdulwasiu Ademola

- Ward 02 – Hon. Ajala Yusuf Olayinka

- Ward 06 – Hon. Abiola Abibat

- Ward 10 – Hon. Ojo Abiodun
Speaking on behalf of all the candidates, Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola expressed profound gratitude to Almighty God for granting them another opportunity to serve the people.
He also appreciated the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for finding them worthy of the confidence reposed in them.
Hon. Oluokun reserved special appreciation for the Senator Dr. Monsurat Olajumoke Sunmonu, whom he described as their mentor, leader, and political mother. He noted that her wisdom, guidance, and commitment to justice had continued to strengthen the party in Òyó East.
According to him, Senator Sunmonu had assured aggrieved party members two years ago that patience and loyalty would be rewarded, adding that, by the grace of God, many of those individuals have now emerged as councillorship candidates.
He further stated that the peaceful conduct of the primary election in Òyó East was a testament to the exemplary leadership and political wisdom of Senator Sunmonu, stressing that the local government recorded one of the most peaceful and rancour-free primary elections in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the party stakeholders, Hon. Akin Alawode commended Governor Seyi Makinde for fostering an atmosphere of unity and inclusiveness within the party.
He described the primary election as peaceful, transparent, and devoid of rancour, urging all the party’s candidates to remain united and work tirelessly towards delivering victory for the Allied Peoples Movement in the forthcoming local government election.
Hon. Alawode also charged party members to begin grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that the party would record overwhelming victories for its candidates at all levels.
The successful conduct of the primary election further demonstrated the unity, discipline, and readiness of the Allied Peoples Movement in Òyó East Local Government as the party prepares for the next electoral contest.
