The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly,Right. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin yesterday lauded the signing of the Executive Order No. 10 of 2020 for the implementation of financial autonomy of state legislatures and state judiciaries by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement made available to The Guardian by the Media Adviser to the Speaker, Alhaji Oyetunji Oyekunle, Ogundoyin said the development would enhance the efficiency of legislative business and ultimately strengthen the nation’s democracy with the people as the ultimate benefiaries.
The speaker said:”The implementation of the financial autonomy in line with section 121(3) of the country’s constitution as amended is a laudable development given the prime role of legislature in a democracy. This singular development will enhance efficiency of legislative business and boost the morale of the lawmakers,with democracy and the people as the ultimate benefiaries.
“It will also strengthen the principle of separation of power and the rule of law and ensure a harmonious working relationship with the executive arm of government”.
The Executive Order number 10 signed by Buhari made it compulsory for the 36 states to always include the allocations of the legislature and the judiciary in the first-line charge of their budgets.
