..Salutes Seyi Makinde, Seye Famojuro, Party Heavyweights

In a dramatic political development shaking the Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency to its core, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly settled on a thunderous consensus, endorsing Dr Akin Fagbemi, the Chairman Oyo State Hospitals Management Board, as its standard bearer ahead of the highly anticipated ratification by Governor Seyi Makinde on April 15.

The decision, reached after a series of intense and tightly contested stakeholder consultations, has effectively crowned Dr Fagbemi as the party’s “leading consensus candidate” following rigorous screening sessions involving four aspirants.

Party elders and power brokers are said to have engaged in extensive deliberations before unanimously settling on his candidacy.

The endorsement meetings were attended by an array of influential PDP figures, including Alhaji Nureni Akanbi (Arole Iba Oluyole), Alhaji Modinat Bose Adedibu, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, Dr Nureni Adeniran, Hon Kehinde Akande, Hon Rahmon Adepoju, Hon Luku Adesina, Hon Fantola, Hon Labule, and other heavyweight stakeholders within the political structure.

In the aftermath of the decision, party insiders described Fagbemi’s emergence as both “inevitable and overwhelming,” insisting he stood out as the most credible and electorally viable option.

Among the glowing endorsements, supporters highlighted his unwavering loyalty to the PDP, noting that he remained steadfast even during turbulent political periods when defections were rife.

They further pointed to his active involvement in the 2019 and 2023 electoral cycles, where he did not only backed the party’s candidate, Odidiomo, financially but also played a frontline role in campaigning and served as returning officer for his election, ensuring electoral integrity and refusing to compromise the process.

His deep grassroots appeal across Ibadanland was also repeatedly emphasised, with party leaders insisting he commands genuine popularity that cuts across local divides and makes him highly “electable”.

Perhaps most strikingly, supporters credited Dr Fagbemi with playing a pivotal role in the electoral successes of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, including his positions as Deputy Campaign Director-General for Oyo South in 2019 and later as head of operational structures during the 2023 re-election bid.

He was also said to have coordinated the influential “Ward Champions” network, credited with securing dominance across all polling units in Ibadan’s eleven local government areas for Governor Seyi Makinde in 2023 in which PDP didn’t lose any polling unit in Ibadanland, a feat described by party loyalists as unprecedented.

His administrative records in the OYRTMA and the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board were also praised as evidence of competence and delivery in public service.

Speaking after the endorsement, Dr Fagbemi expressed deep gratitude to his political principal and governor, describing Seyi Makinde as a “nationally respected leader guided by logic, science and data.”

He also paid tribute to Otunba Seye Famojuro, referring to him as an “amiable and dependable brother” for his consistent support.

Fagbemi further extended appreciation to PDP leaders and elders across the Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency, describing their backing over the past decade as unwavering and deeply encouraging.

He reaffirmed the PDP’s dominance in the region, boasting that the party has not suffered electoral defeat in the local governments since 2019, signalling confidence ahead of the 2027 political showdown.

Goalpoachernews gathered that Fagbemi’s candidacy and that of others are expected to be ratified by Governor Seyi Makinde at the next stakeholders meeting scheduled for 15th April, 2026.
