Fayose Shuns PDP Southwest Meeting as Makinde Vows to Pursue Peace
The much-expected meeting of the warring groups in the South-West People’s Democratic Party (PDP) hit the rocks, on Thursday, as former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and party leaders loyal to him shunned the meeting.
However, River State Governor, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti governor, Olusegun Oni, and Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Hon Rita Orji among others attended the meeting, which the Oyo State Government House in Ibadan today.
A competent source disclosed to our reporter that even though Fayose was favourably disposed to attending the meeting, his loyalists told him pointedly
It was reliably gathered that, at the meeting held in his Lagos residence on Wednesday, his loyalists vowed not to sit on the same table with Governor Makinde, whom they accused of “acting like a baby politician and promoting factions in Ogun, Osun and Ekiti States.”
Similarly, they cited the suspension of the Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Taiwo Iyiola, just because he held meeting with Zonal Chairmanship aspirant, Dr Eddy Olafeso, in the residence of Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan.
However, those on the side of Governor Makinde attended the meeting while former Governor Fayose, Adebutu, Adeleke, Olafeso and chairmen of the party in Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti were absent.
While speaking with our correspondent, the media aide to Ayodele Fayose, Lere Olayinka says his principal couldn’t attend the meeting owing to the fact that since his loyalists had agreed not to attend the meeting in Ibadan, Fayose cannot attend such meeting.
