In response to the impending flood threats in Akinyele Local Government Area, The Executive Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye, recently spearheaded a comprehensive visit to the most vulnerable communities.

Accompanied by key members of his cabinet and the local government management team, the visit aimed to assess the conditions firsthand and engage with stakeholders regarding the pressing issues surrounding flood management. This proactive approach reflects a commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of residents, especially in areas known for their susceptibility to flooding.

During the visit, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye engaged with community leaders, residents, and other stakeholders to discuss their concerns and gather insights on the challenges they face during flooding events. The discussions were marked by a sense of urgency, as residents shared their experiences and highlighted the need for immediate action.

The Executive Chairman assured them of the local government’s dedication to addressing these challenges through strategic measures, including the planned dredging of Lagbeja Oluana and other rivers that have become critical flashpoints for flooding.

The residents expressed their gratitude to Hon. Akinwole Akinleye and his team for their commitment to developmental strides within the community. Many praised the Executive Chairman for consistently living up to his campaign promises and embodying the principles of responsive governance. His leadership style, which mirrors the vision of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, emphasizes a people-oriented approach, ensuring that the needs and welfare of constituents remain a priority in local governance.

As part of the flood mitigation strategy, the dredging of Lagbeja Oluana and other rivers is seen as a crucial step towards enhancing drainage systems and preventing water accumulation during heavy rainfall. This initiative is expected to not only alleviate flooding risks but also improve the overall environmental health of the area. By addressing these infrastructural challenges, the local government aims to bolster community resilience against future flooding events.

Moreover, the visit served as an opportunity for Hon. Akinwole Akinleye to reiterate the importance of community involvement in flood prevention efforts. He admonished communities to prioritize their safety during heavy rainfall and avoid blocking drains and other water ways. He encouraged residents to adopt sustainable practices, such as proper waste disposal and environmental conservation, to further mitigate the risk of flooding. The local government’s role, he emphasized, is to facilitate and support these community-driven initiatives while providing the necessary resources and infrastructure.

The proactive measures taken by the Akinyele Local Government under Hon. Akinwole Akinleye’s leadership demonstrate a commendable commitment to addressing flood threats in the community. By engaging with residents, planning essential dredging projects, and promoting community involvement, the local government is laying a strong foundation for effective flood management. As Akinyele LG takes proactive measures for the rainy season, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents, fostering a resilient community ready to face the challenges ahead.
