    Food Security: Akinyele LG to invest in agriculture, partner with IITA, Akinyinka Farms Ltd

    The Executive Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Hon Akinwole Akinleye hosted the representatives of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture ( IITA) and the CEO Akinyinka Farms Ltd in his office at the Local Government Secretariat to discuss agricultural development and Food Safety.

    In their presentations, the representative of the IITA ably led by Dr Titilayo Falade posited that “knowing full well the role of the Local Government in reaching the informal sector, IITA is willing to collaborate with the Local Government to sensitize our Local Farmers, Market Traders and the general public in terms of food safety so as to enable us have a viable and a safe community.”

    In his own presentation, the CEO Akinyinka Farms Ltd, Engr Oluyemi Akinyinka said that he is willing to invest in Akinyele Local Government in the area of livestock and animal husbandry which is aim at improving agricultural productivity in the Local Government.

    In his response, the Executive Chairman appreciates the representatives of ( IITA) and the CEO of Akinyinka Farms for their presentation.

    He acknowledged that sensitization, orientation and reorientation on food safety would not only help our society, but also to curb the spread of diseases in our Local Government.

    He expressed the readiness of the Local Government to access land and cultivate Tomatoes and other farm produce in collaboration with various Agriculture stakeholders in Akinyele Local Government thus increasing supply to the Akinyele farmers market.

    In her closing remark, the Project Manager on Food Safety, Mrs Modupe Banwo appreciates the Chairman for his efforts in promoting food safety in the Local Government and also willing to invest in Agriculture and also expressed the Institute readiness to work collaboratively with the Local Government to make the project a success.
