The Oyo State APM Campaign Council has called on the Federal Government to urgently address the rising cost of petrol and the worsening economic hardship confronting millions of Nigerians, while challenging the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sarafadeen Alli, to clearly present his policy agenda and solutions to the challenges facing the people.

The Campaign Council, in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, expressed concern over the escalating cost of petroleum products, with petrol reportedly selling for as much as ₦1,500 per litre in some areas, saying the development has placed additional pressure on households and businesses and contributed to rising transportation costs, food prices and the cost of essential commodities.

According to the Council, the current economic situation requires urgent and practical interventions capable of providing relief to citizens, supporting businesses and stabilising the economy.

It called on the Federal Government, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), to explain the concrete measures being taken to address the rising cost of living and make petroleum products more affordable and accessible to Nigerians.

The Council also urged political leaders and public office seekers to move beyond campaign rhetoric by presenting clear, realistic and measurable solutions to the economic difficulties confronting the people.

Turning its attention to the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, the APM Campaign Council challenged Senator Oba Sarafa Alli to make his policy proposals available for public scrutiny and engage meaningfully with the concerns and expectations of the electorate.

The Council said while professional experience and legal knowledge may form part of a candidate’s qualifications, voters also deserve to know how candidates intend to address critical areas such as economic development, employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure and the general welfare of residents.

It therefore urged Alli to clearly communicate his vision and proposed solutions to the challenges confronting Oyo State, stressing that public leadership should be anchored on accountability, transparency and responsiveness to the everyday needs of the people.

The Campaign Council maintained that the welfare of Nigerians and residents of Oyo State must remain central to political leadership, particularly at a time when households and businesses are facing increasing economic pressures.

It, however, called for urgent, practical and transparent measures to ease the burden on citizens, while urging all political actors to engage the electorate with substantive policy proposals and actionable plans.
