In a proactive move to safeguard the future of young people, Ibarapa Central Local Government organised a comprehensive awareness programme in Igboora addressing the dangers of drug abuse at a tender age and the rising concerns of cult-related activities among students.

The sensitisation initiative brought together representatives from secondary schools across the local government area, with each school represented by a teacher and five students.

The programme aimed to educate participants on the consequences of substance abuse and cultism while promoting positive values and responsible decision-making.

Representing the Executive Chairman, Hon. Olusola Adeleke, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Yemi Atilola, delivered a keynote address stressing the urgent need for early intervention and continuous guidance for youths.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to youth development, moral discipline, and educational advancement.

In his remarks, Mr. Atilola also acknowledged the unwavering support and people-oriented leadership of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, noting that the local government’s initiatives align with the Governor’s broader vision for youth empowerment, security and sustainable development across the state.

He emphasised that tackling drug abuse and cultism requires collaborative efforts among government, parents, schools and community leaders.

He urged students to shun harmful influences and become responsible ambassadors of positive change in their respective schools and communities.

The guest lecturer, Dr. Olufemi Michael of the University of Ibadan, delivered an insightful and educative presentation on the physical, psychological, social and legal implications of drug abuse and cultism.

He warned that early exposure to illicit substances and unlawful associations can have lasting consequences on academic performance and future opportunities.

Dr. Michael encouraged students to build resilience against peer pressure and seek guidance from teachers and parents when confronted with difficult choices.

The session featured interactive discussions that allowed participants to engage actively and deepen their understanding of the issues.

The programme reflects the determination of the Ibarapa Central Local Government to create a safe and supportive learning environment while strengthening community-based efforts to protect and guide young people toward productive and responsible lives.

In attendance are Director of Education and Social Services Mr Muse M Kehinde. Deputy Director of Education and Social Services , Mr Goke Babarinde. HOU Education
Mrs Yusuff S A whose their presence highlighted the institutional support for the initiative.
