Hon Folajimi Dumps PDP, Appreciates Party Leaders

The lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (DON), has formally resigned his membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing the lingering and unresolvable internal crisis rocking the party as the major reason for his decision.

According to a statement made available to journalists by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Akinwale Bodija, the federal lawmaker described his resignation as a painful but necessary step after years of commitment, sacrifice, and unwavering loyalty to the PDP since 1999.

Hon. Oyekunle noted that the PDP was not just a political platform to him, but a party he helped build with sweat, dedication, and personal sacrifices from the inception of the current democratic dispensation.

The statement further revealed that throughout his political journey, Hon. Oyekunle remained faithful to the PDP and never joined any other political party, making this decision his first political defection in over two decades of active political participation.

“Leaving the PDP is not a decision made out of anger or hatred, but one driven by the realities within the party. The unresolved internal crisis, continuous divisions, and activities of individuals bent on weakening the party’s structure and relevance have made it impossible to continue effectively under the present circumstances,” the statement read.

The lawmaker, however, expressed deep appreciation to the PDP for the political exposure, leadership opportunities, growth, and experience he gained under the party over the years.

Hon. Oyekunle equally appreciated party leaders, members, supporters, and constituents who stood by him throughout his political journey as Youth Leader, Member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, and currently as the representative of Ibadan North Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.

He further requested that the party should henceforth delete his name and details from all PDP registers, records, and official website following his resignation from the party.

While assuring his supporters that his commitment to quality representation and service to the people remains unwavering, the federal lawmaker emphasized that his next political move would be guided strictly by the collective interest and development of his constituents and the people of Oyo State.
