The Executive Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola, has assured residents of adequate security during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations across the local government area.

The chairman also announced the ban on carnivals and all forms of illegal gatherings capable of disrupting public peace and security during the festive period.

Hon. Oluokun gave the directive during a security stakeholders’ meeting held today 25th of May, 2026 in his office with security agencies, religious leaders, and community representatives in Ọ̀yọ́ East Local Government.

He commended security agencies for their proactive efforts in curbing kidnapping and other criminal activities within the local government.

The chairman further warned against hooliganism, violent acts, and any activities that could threaten the peaceful coexistence of residents during and after the celebrations.

Speaking during the meeting, the Divisional Police Officer of Durbar Division, Adeyeye, narrated how officers of the command successfully rescued a hostage from kidnappers through coordinated security operations.
The DPO also appreciated Hon. Oluokun for promptly renovating part of the police station damaged by rainfall immediately the issue was brought to his attention.

Also speaking, the Coordinator of Amotekun Corps in Ọ̀yọ́ East Local Government, Salam Opeyemi, commended the chairman for renovating the Amotekun office and supporting the corps in its operations. He explained how the corps worked tirelessly day and night alongside other security agencies to rescue a kidnapped victim.
He stressed the importance of community cooperation in safeguarding lives and property.

In his contribution, Imam Mikail Mobolaji appealed to security agencies to provide maximum security at all Eid praying grounds during the Ileya festival.

Representatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Hunters Group, SID, Agro-Rangers, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) all pledged to work together to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration in Ọ̀yọ́ East Local Government and beyond.

Representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and traditional religion practitioners also warned residents against raising false alarms capable of causing panic and putting innocent lives in danger.

The meeting ended with a collective call for peace, vigilance, and cooperation among residents throughout the festive season.
