Like all patriarchal societies, the Nigerian political space is highly controlled by men who have been in power since independence; thereby making the opposite gender less visible in the polity.

This imbalance spans across government at all levels in both elective and appointive positions, defying all deliberate efforts geared towards addressing this modern anomalies.

One of such prominent initiative is the National Gender Policy which seeks to statutorily define the inclusiveness of women in public service.

The partial implementation of the 35% affirmative action by government at all levels have continued to choke the political space against the participation of women.

However, despite this seemingly insurmountable challenges, some women have distinguished themselves by carving a niche in the political space and boldly engraving their names in history books.

Hon. Rita Boluwatife Orji, a dependable ally of the People’s Governor of Oyo state, Engr. Seyi Makinde falls within this rare category of distinguished achievers.

The former National lawmaker who represented Ajeromi/Ifelodun federal constituency in the National Assembly has continued to maintain political and strategic relevance both in and out of parliament.

Despite her comparative disadvantage in the terrain where she chose to get involved in public service, The mere mention of her name evokes ecstatic feeling among her constituents who still sees her as a beacon of hope and the best voice to have represented them.

Her professed commitment to delivery of constituency project and sound contribution in the floor of the House, brought relevance and prominence to her constituency.

She is widely and unrepentantly known as a staunch supporter of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state.

This, she demonstrated most visibly in the just concluded 2023 general election where she played prominent role in mobilization and organizing support for the Governor’s re-election bid.

Hon. Rita has stayed true to her words of unwavering solidarity and support for good governance and continues to promote same through constant engagement in philanthropy and community development.

Added to her dedicated family life, Hon. Rita Orji is also an accomplished legal practitioner. Without any doubt, giving women sensitive positions in public service on the account of the contributions of the likes of Hon. Rita Boluwatife Orji is a course worth advancing.
