Hon Seun Olufade’s Decisive Actions: A Reflection of Makinde’s Excellence and Mentorship
By Akinloluwa Akinbode
Excellence is a multifaceted concept that encompasses outstanding performance, continuous improvement, effective decision-making, transparency, accountability, and adherence to high standards and best practices.
X-raying the parallels between Ibadan North Local Government Chairman; Hon. Olufade Oluwaseun’s governance approach and that of Governor Seyi Makinde, one can easily tell that for an effective and successful political leadership, such specific set of competencies and attributes are required. Asides them being compassionate and humane, both the mentee and his mentor are quite proactive in their approach to governance and in hitting the ground running from Day 1. A testament to the fact that grooming and mentorship is vital for young aspiring and serving public servants to build a strong foundation through preparation.
This process of acquiring leadership skills, familiarity and experience with the system of governance puts one on a pedestal, that when chance presents itself, one is empowered to seize the moment and make one’s dreams a reality. It’s not about waiting for the perfect moment or making excuses – it’s about making the most of every opportunity and leaving one’s mark from the very beginning. This brings me to the popular saying that; When opportunity meets preparation, magic happens. In both instances, it is the intersection of chance and readiness, where the stars align and the impossible becomes possible.
The highly impactful steps taken so far emphasize the new chairman’s commitment to replicating Governor Makinde’s people-centric policies and hitting the ground running to drive and replicate effective governance at the grassroots level, being inspired by Gov. Seyi Makinde’s leadership in Oyo State.
The first initiative by the chairman was to appoint media and personal aides, including a Personal Assistant on Education, which is a commendable and forward-thinking approach on prioritization of educational development and addressing the unique challenges within the local educational landscape. Let us not forget that Education is one of the core pillars of Gov. Seyi Makinde’s blueprint.
Cleanliness is next to godliness. In a move to creating a healthy and pleasant environment for employees, visitors, potential investors and the people, Hon. Olufade has been demonstrating a standard of commitment to environmental standards in the council area and other places. It is not only a matter of aesthetics but also a critical aspect of public health and safety, and also a way of drawing investors and improving IGR. There is also an improved punctuality and commitment of workers in the council, ensuring smooth running of activities and that public services are delivered in a timely manner.
Also in a bid to foster the health sector, Hon. Olufade’s oversight visits to the health centres across the local government signifies a shared commitment to addressing the fundamental health needs of the communities, especially in this period of Cholera outbreak, ensuring that primary healthcare services are accessible, efficient, and effective. Such collaboration with the state government’s efforts can facilitate the implementation of comprehensive health programmes that address a wide range of issues, from maternal and child health to vaccination drives and preventive care.
Just a week ago, There was an official meeting aimed at partnership with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) on food production and food safety. This is obviously in line with the standards of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde’s strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and food security. By partnering with IITA, Ibadan North Local Government can access innovative agricultural technologies, and best practices that can be tailored to the local context of not being an agrarian community.
Despite that, farmers can gain new skills and knowledge that empower them to adopt modern agricultural techniques. This not only enhances their productivity but also promotes new sustainable farming practices that are environmentally friendly and economically viable.
These significant initiatives, all accomplished within the first 30 days of office, set a high standard for effective governance and community development. They also reflect a leadership that is responsive, innovative, and committed to the well-being and progress of its citizens.
