The Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda, has extended heartfelt felicitations to Muslim faithful across the local government and beyond as they celebrate the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1447.

In a goodwill message made available to journalists on Friday, Hon. Sanda described the commencement of the new Islamic year as a time for spiritual renewal, deep reflection, and recommitment to values that foster unity, peace, and compassion within the society.

He noted that Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar, holds immense spiritual significance and should be embraced as a period to strengthen one’s relationship with God, while also demonstrating kindness, patience, and self-discipline.

“It’s Hijrah 1447 – may Allah (SWT) make this new year the beginning of new blessings, progress, and peace in our lives and in our communities,” Hon. Sanda stated.

The council boss encouraged Muslims to reflect on the historical migration (Hijrah) of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah—an event that symbolizes sacrifice, perseverance, and unwavering faith in divine guidance.

He further called on residents of Egbeda, particularly the Muslim community, to remain consistent in their prayers and to embody acts of charity, especially towards the underprivileged.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and inter-religious harmony, Hon. Sanda stressed that Egbeda’s strength lies in its diversity.

“Our strength lies in our diversity. As we begin this new year, let us all – Muslims and non-Muslims alike – work together to build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Egbeda,” he said.

Hon. Sanda concluded his message by praying for a fruitful year filled with divine mercy, progress, and stability for all Muslims. He also reiterated his administration’s dedication to good governance, infrastructural development, and community welfare.

The Islamic New Year, also known as Hijrah, commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) historic migration from Makkah to Madinah in 622 AD, which marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar. The year 1447 AH officially began on Thursday, June 27, 2025, following the sighting of the new moon.
