A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Afijio State Constituency, Hon. Oladeji Oparinde, has expressed solidarity with Governor Seyi Makinde over recent political rumours alleging an impeachment plot against the governor.
Oparinde described the report circulating in the public space as baseless distractions aimed at creating unnecessary political tension in the state.
He said the narratives, which have gained traction in some political circles, appear to be deliberately crafted to divert attention from governance and development efforts currently being pursued by the Makinde-led administration.
The lawmaker also dismissed claims suggesting that the Oyo State Government was involved in any plan to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, the traditional ruler of Ibadanland, headed by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, insisting that such allegations were unfounded and misleading.
According to him, both the impeachment rumours and the alleged plot against the revered traditional institution are distractions that should not be allowed to derail governance or create division among stakeholders in the state.
Oparinde further noted that political actors and the public must be cautious of unverified information, warning that such claims could unnecessarily heighten tensions and distract from development priorities.
He added that the focus of elected officials should remain on delivering democratic dividends to the people rather than engaging in what he described as “manufactured controversies” ahead of the 2027 political cycle.
Reaffirming his position, the lawmaker said he remains firmly behind the governor, stressing that unity among political leaders in the state is essential for continued progress and stability.
In his words, Oparinde said: “These reports about impeachment and traditional institution interference are nothing but baseless distractions. Governor Makinde should not be distracted by such stories, and that I Oladeji Oparinde stand firmly with Governor Seyi Makinde and was not contacted or given any money”
He further added: “We stand in full solidarity with the governor as his focus remain on governance, service delivery, and the welfare of the good people of Oyo State.”
