‘I Will Fulfill Promise Made To Muslim Community During My Re-election Bid’ – Makinde (Succession Plan or What? See The Intrigues)
Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has assured Muslim Community that he would fulfil the promise he made to them during his re-election bid.
Makinde gave the assurance at Oja’ba Central Mosque, Ibadan, where he attended the installation of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Oloye Nureni Akanbi, as the Baba’sale Musulumi of Ibadanland.
He maintained that his government would continue to stay true to its commitment to serve the people, saying:
“The Muslims promised to support me for my reelection and you fulfilled the promise.
“And I want to assure you too that what I have promised to do for you in return, I will do it. So, I appreciate you all.
He congratulated Alhaji Akanbi, praying to God to make his reign as Baba’sale Musulumi peaceful.
The Governor used the occasion to express gratitude to the Muslim Ummah in Oyo State for voting for him overwhelmingly despite having Muslims as major opposition parties’ candidates.
However, the statement made by the Governor has left many political gladiators, technocrats, business moguls who have gubernatorial ambitions in the ruling PDP, opposition parties like APC, Accord, SDP among others have started weighing the political implications what Makinde said.
Investigation revealed that during electioneering, the league of Imams and Alfas in Oyo State reportedly presented a common position to Governor Seyi Makinde that they would support his re-election but on a condition that he would pick a Muslim as his successor in 2027.
A source at the meeting held before the gubernatorial election who spoke with Goalpoacher News on condition of anonymity stated that Governor Seyi Makinde didn’t make a categorical statement but saw it as memorandum of understanding (MOU).
Another source told our correspondent that the Governor may likely present a younger person who is not up to 50 years of age as his successor.
The source said, “if you look at what the Governor is doing in the area of appointments, you would realize that he has given youths juicy appointments and they constitute like like 85 percentage of those he has appointed so far.
“See the Commissioners, Senior Special Assistants, Director-Generals and Chairmen of Boards, Agencies, Corporations.
“Even at local government level, 90-95% of all chairmanship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP are in their 30s, 40s.”
From 1991 till date, Oyo State has always produced either a Christian or Muslim as Governors but the Pacesetter State is popular for its liberalism.
