Member representing Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, Hon. Dr. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, has congratulated His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on the success of the Elective National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Sunday through his spokesperson, Hassan Adesodi Olaoniye, Hon. Adepoju commended Gov. Makinde’s efforts in hosting the national convention of the party in Oyo State.

According to him, history will remember the Executive Governor of Oyo State as a man who stands firm in defending Nigeria’s hard-earned democracy, even when some individuals are bent on turning the country into a one-party system, a development that he said is detrimental to Nigeria’s thriving democracy.

The lawmaker expressed that a country becomes dead the day there is no strong opposition to keep the government in power on its toes, coming up with policies that affect the people of the country generally.

Hon. Adepoju also congratulated the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, who was the erstwhile PDP Deputy Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, on his emergence as the PDP National Secretary in the just-concluded 2025 PDP National Convention.

He described the election of Amb. Arapaja as a round peg in a round hole, highlighting his intellectual capacity, track record of political experience, unblemished character and uncommon wisdom as special attributes that make him a perfect leader for the exalted position.

He commended the former House of Representatives member for serving with distinction in his previous leadership roles, including, most recently, as PDP Deputy Chairman (South), noting that with the new national leaders of the party, the PDP is on a path to progress and stability.

The Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Character, who served as Secretary of the Transportation Sub-Committee of the National Convention, applauded Governor Makinde for his ingenuity as the Chairman of the Committee in devising means to provide hitch-free mobility for all delegates from across the country, even when the powers that be obstructed the opening of the newly constructed Ibadan Airport, which would have eased the movement of party members who came from every state of the federation.

The Ibarapa-born politician cum technocrat reaffirmed that the success of the 2025 PDP National Convention heralds hope and a brighter future for the PDP nationally.
