I’ll Not Allow You Hijack ADC Structure in Oyo – Former Makinde’s Aide Tells Gov

A former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Diaspora Matter, Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi (BASA) has reassured executives and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State that no individual, regardless of political influence, can hijack the party or impose candidates on its members. Eaglitarian Voice reports.

This comes amid circulating rumours of possible defections by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Bala Muhammed of Bauchi State.

According to BASA, many ADC leaders and members had reached out to her, expressing concerns that sitting governors might attempt to control the party in Oyo State.

She reassured them that the party leadership in Oyo State is strong, united, and committed to safeguarding its independence and grassroots foundation.

“We must see these developments positively. ADC in Oyo State today is funded by our members; no external money can dictate how our people act.

“We will not allow anyone to destroy the structure we are building from the grassroots.

“The executives in Oyo State use their resources to grow the party, local government by local government, maintaining peace and discipline — and we will continue to do so,” BASA said.

On concerns that Governor Makinde might attempt to impose candidates as alleged in 2022, BASA emphasized:

“ADC will conduct free and fair primaries. Any aspirant or delegate caught paying for votes or manipulating the process will be barred from the party, and any executive found complicit will lose their position.

“Our national leaders should adopt this approach across states. ADC is here to produce credible leaders, and our integrity is non-negotiable.”

Addressing fears of political betrayal during primaries, BASA added:

“This cannot happen again in Oyo State. We have put measures in place to prevent it. Such incidents can only occur if our executives allow them, and I have confidence in the loyalty and integrity of our members.

“ADC is open to anyone willing to contribute positively, not to dictate or buy votes.”

ADC members in Oyo State welcomed BASA’s reassurance, highlighting the party’s growing strength and independence.

“That sitting governors are reportedly considering joining ADC shows the party is becoming a major political force. PDP has lost relevance; ADC is now the platform for serious politicians with vision for Nigeria,” a member said.

As 2027 approaches, the mood within Oyo State ADC remains one of calm confidence, with leaders focused on preparation and grassroots mobilization rather than speculation.

“Our 2027 game will reflect our preparation and integrity. ADC cannot be hijacked, and our members will continue to uphold the party’s values and principles,” BASA concluded.
