As Nigeria commemorates 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating Democracy Day, while reaffirming his commitment to good governance, democratic values, and people-oriented leadership.

In a Democracy Day message released through his Head of Media, Aderibigbe Yisahu Ajibola, Hon. Olufade paid glowing tribute to the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, whose sacrifice and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals continue to inspire generations of Nigerians.

According to the Chairman, June 12 remains a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic history and a powerful reminder of the struggles, sacrifices, and resilience of patriots who fought tirelessly to ensure that the will of the people prevails.

“The significance of June 12 goes beyond history.

It symbolizes courage, justice, freedom, and the collective determination of Nigerians to enthrone democratic governance.

As we celebrate this day, we must continue to uphold the values of accountability, transparency, inclusion, and service to humanity,” Olufade stated.

Reflecting on the nation’s democratic journey, the Ibadan North Chairman noted that while Nigeria has recorded notable progress in democratic governance, there is still a collective responsibility to address the challenges confronting the nation, particularly insecurity, economic hardship, and social development.

Hon. Olufade specifically lent his voice to the growing calls for the immediate and safe release of the abducted school children, teachers, and principal from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

He described the incident as painful, unfortunate, and deeply disturbing.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the affected families, the entire Oriire community, and all well-meaning Nigerians.

I earnestly pray that the abducted pupils, teachers, and principal are released unharmed and reunited safely with their loved ones.

As a people, we must continue to support every legitimate effort aimed at securing their freedom and restoring peace to the affected community.”

The Chairman further prayed for divine intervention in the affairs of the nation, expressing optimism that Nigeria would overcome its present challenges and emerge stronger, safer, and more prosperous.

“It is my sincere prayer that Nigeria becomes a more peaceful, secure, and united nation where every citizen can fully enjoy the dividends of democracy.

We must strive towards a democracy that brings comfort, development, opportunities, and hope to the people, not a democracy burdened by pain, fear, and uncertainty.”

Hon. Olufade also extended warm goodwill to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and all public office holders across the country, commending their continued efforts toward strengthening democratic institutions and promoting good governance.

While appreciating the people of Ibadan North Local Government for their support and cooperation, the Chairman urged residents of the local government, the people of Oyo State, and Nigerians across the country to remain hopeful, prayerful, resilient, and optimistic about the future.

“No matter the challenges we currently face as a nation, we must never lose faith in Nigeria.

Together, through unity, prayers, patriotism, and responsible leadership, we can build the country of our dreams.

Let us continue to believe in the promise of a better Nigeria and work collectively towards fixing our nation properly for the benefit of present and future generations.”

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering quality governance and improving the welfare of residents of Ibadan North Local Government.

Congratulating Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day, Hon. Olufade wished all citizens peace, progress, and prosperity.

“I wish the good people of Ibadan North Local Government, the people of Oyo State, and all Nigerians a happy Democracy Day celebration.

May our democracy continue to grow stronger, and may Nigeria continue to flourish in peace, unity, and development.”

“Long Live Ibadan North Local Government. Long Live Oyo State. Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
