Member representing Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, Hon. Dr. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In the presence of party faithfuls and supporters, he submitted his resignation letter to the Ward 4 Chairman of the party on Wednesday, May 5, 2026.
In a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, through his spokesperson, Hassan Adesodi Olaoniye, Hon. Adepoju expressed profound appreciation to his supporters, the people of Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, as well as members of the PDP, for their unwavering support, loyalty, and commitment over the years.
Describing his exit from the party as a difficult but necessary decision, the federal lawmaker stated that the unresolved internal crises rocking the party, both within the constituency and across the nation, informed his decision to resign.
Hon. Adepoju also commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his exemplary leadership and steadfastness at this critical period of nation-building. He further reaffirmed his deep emotional attachment to the PDP, noting that the party holds a special place in his family history.
“The PDP is not just a political party to me; it is a legacy. My father, the late Asiwaju of Igbo-Ora, Dr. Amos Ademola Adepoju, was one of its founding fathers in 1998 and served as the pioneer National Financial Secretary of the party between 1998 and 2002,” he stated.
Speaking further on his resignation, Hon. Adepoju remarked:
“The lingering crisis within the party has not only negatively affected my responsibilities as a federal lawmaker, but has also created deep divisions within the party leadership, thereby limiting my capacity to effectively serve the people of my constituency. This resignation has become necessary to enable me focus fully on the mandate entrusted to me by the people of Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency and to continue serving them diligently and effectively.
I understand the concerns this decision may raise among my numerous supporters at home and in the diaspora, and I assure everyone that my next political direction will be made known in due course.”
The Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Federal Character, emphasized that the decision was reached after extensive consultations and careful consideration. He reiterated his gratitude to the leadership of the party, members, and supporters for the opportunities, relationships, and experiences gained throughout his time in the PDP.
