LG Autonomy: Makinde Set-up Legal, Technical Committees to Review Supreme Court Judgement
The Oyo State Government has set up Technical and Legal Committees to look into the Supreme Court judgment on Local Government financial autonomy and fashion out home grown solutions for transparency and bridge the lacuna which has been created by the Judgement
The Committees were set during a special Advisory/Consultative committee meeting held at the Executive Chambers of the governor’s office Agodi Ibadan.
Addressing the issue during an Advisory/Consultative meeting on Monday, the state governor Engineer Seyi Makinde said the essence of the meeting was to deliberate on how to provide home grown solutions for transparency and bridge the lacuna which has been created between the judgement of the Supreme Court on financial autonomy of the Local governments in the Country and the constitution.
The governor, who recounted various developmental projects Local Governments had witnessed under his administration,
noted that there is hunger that has led to anger in the land, as he also expressed that what should be the main focus is how to have better revenue sharing formula in order to take people out of poverty to prosperity.
Briefing newsmen the outcome of a closed door meeting held at the Executive Chambers of the governor’s office, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Ademola Ojo admitted that there are challenges that must have lasting solutions in the interest of the people of the state as regards the issue, noting that a lacuna has been created in the Constitution.
While Corroborating Mr Ademola Ojo, the Attorney general and Commissioner for justice Mr Biodun Aikomo, maintained that the state Governor Engineer Seyi Makinde is ready to do everything within his capacity to ensure the people of the state are not subject to suffering.
The attendees of the meeting were drawn from various relevant groups and other stakeholders in the state.
The meeting was attended by Oyo ALGON Chairman, Hon Sikiru Sanda, Secretary, Hon Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy, Hon Lateef Akorede, Hon Kamorudeen Mudashiru, Hon Kazeem Olayanju among others.
