Makinde Convenes Crucial Stakeholders’ Meeting to Decide Fate of Oyo Council Aspirants Amid Ticket Uncertainty

‎Before the close of Friday, political fortunes of hundreds of chairmanship aspirants across Oyo State are expected to become clearer as Governor Seyi Makinde convenes a crucial stakeholders’ meeting to determine the party’s candidates for the December 2026 local government elections.

‎Goalpoacher News gathered from sources familiar with the process that the meeting is expected to decide which aspirants will secure the party’s tickets, with indications that while some incumbent local government chairmen may be given the opportunity to seek a second term, the political future of many others still hangs in the balance.

‎Multiple party sources disclosed that a leaked list currently circulating among stakeholders contains the names of several incumbent council chairmen and a former local government chairman believed to be under consideration for return.

‎However, insiders cautioned that the document should not be regarded as the final list, as consultations were still ongoing and last minute adjustments could be made before decisions are concluded.

‎The uncertainty has heightened anxiety among aspirants and their supporters across the state, with many anxiously awaiting the outcome of the stakeholders’ meeting.

‎While some aspirants are expected to emerge with return tickets and celebrate their political fortunes, others currently believed to be in contention may eventually miss out, as party sources insist that not all names on the leaked list are guaranteed the party’s nod.

‎The stakeholders’ meeting is expected to shape the party’s strategy for the council elections and determine the standard bearers who will fly its flag across the state’s 33 local government areas.
