One of the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Chief Niyi Akintola SAN has declared that only the faction in the party led by Senator Teslim Folarin went into Saturday’s local government elections against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
Chief Akintola stated this on Sunday on Fresh FM Crossfire, anchored by ace broadcast Journalist, Mayor Isaac Brown.
Reacting to the claims by the major opposition party that the elections were manipulated by Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC to favour the ruling party, the legal luminary said only Teslim Folarin’s faction in the party went into the elections and were roundly defeated by the PDP. His words:
“It was Teslim faction of Apc that went into the local government elections against the PDP and were roundly defeated by the ruling party.
“Why should Oyo APC want to win anything from last Saturday’s elections?
“Did they concede any seat to any opposition party when they organized same elections twice under Governor Abiola Ajimobi?
“Pre-2023 schisms within APC occasioned by the flawed congresses and current executives still remain unresolved till date contributed largely to last Saturday’s defeat.
“Those raising issues whether Saturday’s elections were free and fair shouldn’t jump into conclusion.
“Election is a process. It concludes not just at announcement by umpire.
“There is Court window, only the courts can confirm if an election was free and fair.”
Chief Niyi Akintola said that most zonal mega rallies held by Oyo APC had Teslim faction taking pole positions with absence of leaders from other prominent factions in the party.
“Same is the absence of the leaders of other factions at the primaries held to produce apc candidates in the Saturday’s elections”
