With barely 17 months to the end of its tenure Oyo State government has continued to defy the second term syndrome and intensifies developmental agenda with new zeal, commitment and enthusiasm.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, following yesterday’s Executive Council meeting, Governor Seyi Makinde is determined to ensure equitable development across all six geopolitical zones of the state.

The council approved the construction and rehabilitation of
45.3-kilometre Saki-Ogboro-Igboho road, at a cost of ₦18,141,307,000 (Eighteen billion, one hundred and forty-one million, three hundred and seven thousand naira), citing damages caused by heavy rainfall in July. Additionally, the Ogbooro-Agbonle road has been included in the project list to assist farmers in transporting agricultural produce efficiently.

The commissioner said that this administration has not relaxed its commitment to critical infrastructural interventions in the Oke Ogun area, even after completing the Saki Township Dualization Road, a project abandoned by previous administrations.

He said that security measures are also being strengthened, with airstrips in Otu and Igbeti designated for two new state aircraft and the MOPOL, mobile police station relocated to Ago Are to tackle banditry and other forms of insecurity.

According to the Commissioner, works have commenced on the Igboho-Kishi 30km road, as well as the 23km Okaka-Igbojaye road, and the Kunle Afolayan Production Film Village in Komu.

The council also approved the completion of the long-abandoned Kishi Fire Station at a cost of ₦141,864,000 (One hundred and forty-one million, eight hundred and sixty-four thousand naira).

In his remark, the Deputy Governor Barrister Bayo Lawal commended administration’s even-handed approach to development in Oke Ogun, assuring residents that “no major project initiated by this administration will be abandoned by the end of its tenure”

Prince Oyelade said that other major approvals include the dualization of Ariyo-Amuloko-Odeyale junction, which will receive ₦15,127,644,000 (Fifteen billion, one hundred and twenty-seven million, six hundred and forty-four thousand naira) from the state government.

He stressed that the project will serve as a vital link to Ogun State via Dagbolu and provide an alternative route from the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) to Ijebu Ode.

The Council also approved asphaltic rehabilitation of roads within old and new Bodija, including Francis Okediji, Layi Osunkunle, Ekiti-Bamiji-Ojo, Osun, Kongi, Theophilus Akinyele, Peller, Ladosun Ladapo, and Adebajo Street, at a total cost of ₦16,205,172,000 (Sixteen billion, two hundred and five million, one hundred and seventy-two thousand naira).

According to him, a special intervention fund of ₦6.8 billion (Six billion, eight hundred million naira) has been earmarked for the Iwo Road-Olodo Bridge-ElesinGodogbo-Lalupon-Iyana Ofa road, bringing the total project cost to ₦14,538,681,000 (Fourteen billion, five hundred and thirty-eight million, six hundred and eighty-one thousand naira), pending the submission of an advanced payment guarantee from a reputable bank.

Oyelade said that this administration has spent well over one Trillion on infrastructures since 2019.

In education, the council approved the procurement and distribution of 23,042 science equipment/materials to 99 public secondary schools, at a cost of ₦107,739,115 (One hundred and seven million, seven hundred and thirty-nine thousand, one hundred and fifteen naira), to boost learning across the state.

He added that the Project Facilitation Fund (PFF) was established to accelerate project implementation, enhance coordination among MDAs, and develop bankable investment-ready projects. The fund will be coordinated by the Oyo State Investment Promotion Agency (OYSIPA).

Prince Oyelade concluded that the Oyo State Medical Residency Training Bill 2025 was approved and forwarded to the State House of Assembly for assent, marking a major milestone in healthcare development.
