Dr Debo Akande, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Agribusiness, says the ongoing palliatives distribution to identified 120 households across the state has no political undertone.

Akande stated this on Wednesday while briefing newsmen at the end of the distribution of palliatives to some poorest households in Ibadan Southwest Local Government Area of the state by Gov Seyi Makinde.

The Special Adviser who is also a member of the committee set up for the distribution, said the palliative was purely for the identified poorest of the poor in the society, irrespective of political party affiliations.

He said the feedback gotten and analysis done so far has shown that the exercise was a systematic approach to distribution of good to the right set of people, “which we have their data and their contacts to be sure that the beneficiaries are the category of people that need the palliatives.”

On the number of households that have benefitted from the exercise; Akande said that 90,000 households have so far benefitted from the palliatives, saying the second phase of the exercise would be for the identified 30,000 vulnerable households.

He further stated that the palliative measure was in two ways, namely; the food distribution and Agricultural inputs distribution to support farmers.

He announced that not less than 10,000 farmers would benefit from the support within the next two weeks.

Governor Makinde and some members of his cabinet, visited some identified households in Oke Ado, Foko, Oja-Oba and Oranyan areas within the state capital, where he personally presented food items such as rice, beans and garri to some of the beneficiaries.
